Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, an American-Canadian singer and songwriter. She has released over 20 albums. DiFranco categorizes her music under the terms folk-rock and alternative, but it also contains influences such as punk, hip-hop, and jazz. Ani Difranco is widely recognized as an icon of music that is feminist. In the year 1990, she was among the first to establish her own independent record label. DiFranco was a born on 23rd September 1970 in Buffalo New York. Her parents were Elizabeth (Ross), from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Dante Americo DiFranco. Her mother and father were both of Montreal descent. Ani's song, 32 Flavors, was composed by her, and performed by Ani. This song appeared on her 5th studio album Not a Pretty Girl which came out in 1995. A variation of the song appears in the soundtrack to 1999's Canadian romance film Better Than Chocolate. In 2013, DiFranco apologized after it was revealed that she was hosting a three-day workshop on a former Louisiana slave plantation. Although she cancelled the workshop, many individuals (including our own paper) were not able to feel remorse. DiFranco released a new apology a few days later. Although she is known as the Little Folksinger, her songs have embraced a variety of genres and collaborators ranging across the spectrum from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. She lives in New Orleans. Ani DiFranco is married to Kristen Ford. At the age of 14, she began writing her own songs. They continued to be performed at coffee houses and bars during her teens. DiFranco was a graduate of the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts high school when she was 16, and enrolled in classes at Buffalo State College. The new baritone she got was custom-built by Alvarez guitar, designed by Chrys Johnston, who at the time was working as the Alvarez Artist Rep. It's an System 600 guitar with solid woods, including cedar for the top and back, mahogany on the and sides, and Ebony for the fretboard. Her home is in New Orleans. There she lives with her husband, kids and her long-legged pet Lefty. DiFranco acknowledges that more than three decades after her initial appearance on the music scene, she feels mixed when she looks back. Punk/folk singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco attained musical heroine status at the age of 25 among both fans and critics after her seventh release Not A Pretty Girl in 1995 and even greater popular recognition through Dilate In 1996.
